Sundance Airpark is the largest privately owned/public use
jetport/airport in the state of Oklahoma and is one of the three
largest facilities of its kind in the United States. Construction
began in 1982 and the airport was completed in 1985.
The Airport and its improvements are as follows:
- 275+/- total acres of land including approximately 180 acres
of land for future development.
- Main Terminal building with office complex and maintenance
/ executive aircraft storage hangars.
- Large maintenance / storage modification hangar.
- 150 "T" Hangars in 10 hangar buildings.
- Modern above-ground aircraft fuel dispensing facilities
with 30,000 gallon under-ground fuel storage capacity.
- Lighted 5,000' X 100' all concrete runway and full length
parallel taxi-way. All concrete main terminal ramp area, hangar
taxi-ways and automobile parking.
- Small hangar, house, asphalt aircraft tie-down area, perimeter
fencing and card-key main entry gate.
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved instrument
approach procedures for navigation during inclement weather
conditions including localizer (LOC), global positioning satellite
(GPS), VOR/DME and R-NAV.
The airport lies in the Oklahoma City limits (fifteen minutes
from downtown) and is accessible by four-lane highway. A newly
constructed infra-city loop expressway will ultimately reach within
one mile of the southeastern edge of Sundance Airpark.
Wiley Post Airport and Will Rogers International Airport are
the two largest municipally owned airports in Oklahoma City.
Wiley Post is located within five miles of Sundance, Will Rogers
is located within fifteen miles.
Airport Specifications
The main terminal building at Sundance measures 130' X 170'
and contains approximately 30,000 square feet in two-story offices
and hangar space. The building is modern in every sense of the
word. The 80' X 20' main hangar doors are electrically operated
and the maintenance portion of the main terminal building has
its own heating system, thus enabling it to be leased separately
from the remainder of the facility.
Adjacent to the terminal building is a newly constructed staorage
and modification hanger facility. This building measures 120'
X 120' with an attached office/shop area measuring 100' X 20'.
It has a 30' eave height with an electically operated 90' X
27' door. This building is large enough to accommodate Gulfstram
IV size aircraft.
There are 15 individual offices in the terminal building,
a beautiful lobby area, pilots lounge/shower facilities and
large private conference room. The facility is zoned into five
separate areas with each zone served by an individual heating
and cooling system. The entire terminal building is also equipped
with a fire/safety sprinkler system.
Sundance has 150 fully enclosed "T" hangars. Each hangar has
"red-iron" super structure, bottom-rolling doors and all concrete
floors. Eighteen hangars were built as "small" hangars, but
in reality each has considerably more space than most airport's
"large" hangars. Specifically, the doors are 43 feet wide to
accommodate up to light twin-engine aircraft. There are 96 medium-sized
hangars with 48 foot doors to accommodate up to cabin-class
twin-engine aircraft. There are 36 large-sized hangars with
56 foot doors to accommodate up to turboprop and some light-jet
aircraft.
The fuel storage and dispensing system has undergone a complete
renovation. The new fuel facility was the first of its kind
in the United States and features a self-service complex that
can fuel four aircraft simultaneously. Full service aircraft
fueling is provided by line service personnel. Modern under-ground
fuel storage has a capacity of 30,000 gallons that is expandable
as storage requirement demands. This system is electronically
monitored for overfill/spill protection.
Sundance has over 12 acres of concrete ramps, taxi-ways and
runway. The construction of the ramps, taxi-ways and runway
involved six inches of lime-treated soil, six inches of crushed
aggregate and a cap of six inches of portland cement.
Pilot-controlled medium intensity runway lights (MIRLs), taxi-way
lights, vertical approach slope indicator lights (VASI) and
the localizer (LOC) landing system were installed. Unicom air-to-ground
radio communications and satellite weather imaging and reports
are provided at the main terminal service desk.
Growth Potential
Sundance Airpark contains approximately 275 acres of land.
Currently, more than 180 acres are available for future development.
This land could be developed for a vast array of uses including
corporate, commercial/industrial, up-scale residential, inter-collegiate
training facilities, hotel/restaurant facilities and conference/entertainment
facilities. The long range growth potential is almost limitless!
